Shimano Aero X7 Competition Pole 13 m Pack
Update - 2 November 2024
The pole is at home now and all the measurements have been done. So here's the data:
The lengths given are when the pole is put together.
The weight is higher than that given in the Shimano catalogue, but that's something all pole manufacturers mislead you about.
At 13 m with the 13 m extension, the pole is 13.13 m long and weights in at 1030 grams.
At 11.5 m with the 11.5 m extension, the pole is 11.62 m long and weighs in at 869 grams.
The extensions are very strong and therefore a bit heavier. The pole has perfect balance at these two lengths.
I have also bought extra sections 5, 6 & 7, so I now have an Aero X7 13 m pole and an Aero X7 11.5 m pole. If I clumsily break a section, I can continue fishing.
The short No. 3 gives me lots of options for different lengths of top kits - either with the standard No. 3 or the short No. 3. So far, I'm extremely impressed with this pole. I've elasticated all of the six No. 1 sections, and now I can't wait to get her out on the bank.
Tight lines, Doc
Update - 1 November 2024
I bought the pole today from Paul Keizers at Hengelsport Kruidenier in Haaksbergen - see link to his shop on the right side of this page.
Initially, I bought the 13 m pack, with an extra two No. 1 sections for elastics - that gives me six No. 1 sections in total - and a spare No. 3 & 4 section for the cupping kit.
I have three short No. 3 sections, the 5/6 and 7/8 protectors & a No. 5 & 6 sections on order. I need the No. 5 & 6 sections in case I break them while I am fishing - it has happened before, and it will happen again. No need to be stranded without a spare section.
Only the 1.25 m No. 1 sections are fitted with elastic.
This is a new pole that I will be buying in the next few weeks. Until 2001, I had a Shimano Super Ultegra 14 m pole, and it was a fantastic pole for its time. I sold it to pursue a few years Carp fishing.
I have the problem that the sections on my Preston Euro Competition 3000 pole are always coming loose. I have almost lost the pole a few times in the water, and the pole has fell apart behind me on many occasions - it's a real pain in the arse!
I'll make a list of spares that I need when I order the pole and I'll write some more about the pole when I use it for the first time. Can't wait.
